WWE: 10 Times Triple H Saw Something He Liked And Booked Himself Into It

8. Batista

On the same night that Hunter squashed Eugene, Randy Orton became World Champion. Orton was Hunter's pet project, the plan was to have the student overcome the master at WrestleMania 21. To facilitate this, Hunter turned on Orton the night after SummerSlam in one of the best Raw angles ever. At the next special event, Unforgiven, Hunter beat Orton and took the title. It was illogical booking, the new star was being shut down so soon, but Orton was reassured in the fact that it was all part of a bigger picture where he would hunt down Hunter and get the title back at WrestleMania 21. It would be the ultimate star making moment. Except for the fact that Hunter got wind of something else. He had started to notice the naturally progressing popularity of Batista, the inferior member of Evolution, who the public were getting behind willing him to turn on Hunter. It was decided that's the direction they would go with instead, resulting in Hunter getting in on Batista's buzz over one of the hottest Mania builds ever. As for Orton and the promise of his big Mania match with Triple H for the title, it was abandoned, reportedly leaving Orton bitter. The Game had seen something better and dropped his student like a hot coal.
