WWE: 10 Ways The Kliq Conspired To Take Over The Wrestling Industry

6. D Generation X

dx_and_nwoBIG The WWF version of the NWO was DX. Shawn, and then Hunter led the D Generation X group and it quickly became one of the most entertaining acts on television. The group helped to solidify Triple H as a main event guy. Shawn used the group as a vehicle to steer content down a more mature angle that better suited his and Hunter's sense of humour. They reveled in the new role, as the new roster struggled to adapt to the new form of entertainment that HBK was directing. Given that Shawn and Hunter were able to book DX however they wanted due to their relationship with Vince, the two men were finally able to put down a marker in their status as top guys. Working to their strengths, the pair were the highlight of WWE TV. Proving The Kliq was alive and well, DX even shot an angle where they invaded WCW, with Hunter declaring on TV "we're here for our guys ... we just want to say what's up to our boys Scott Hall and Kevin Nash." Perhaps the biggest example of The Kliq abusing their power in this period was their treatment of The Rock. The WWF Champion Steve Austin was unstoppable, but the spot of the second main guy in the WWF was still rumbling between Triple H and The Rock. Shawn Michaels set about waging a war of terror against The Rock. He tried to bury him as much as possible to ensure Hunter was elevated as the next big thing in WWF. The campaign didn't work €“ such was the charisma and ability of Rock that he ended up becoming much bigger than Hunter. Michaels had failed, and Rocky never forgot how the Texan had tried to hurt his fledgling career. When Vince McMahon suggested a Michaels vs Rock match in the 2000's, Rock flat out refused.
