WWE: 10 Wrestlers Loved As Upcomers But Hated Once Popular
8. Randy Orton
Since his debut in 2002 Randy Orton has been earmarked for greatness by WWE. After recovering from a shoulder injury Orton started his "Legend Killer" era as a member of Evolution with fellow newcomer Batista, Triple H and Ric Flair attaining the Intercontinental Championship and the attention of WWE fans everywhere. By SummerSlam 2004 Orton was World Heavyweight Champion, the youngest in history. From there his star only continued to rise, amassing more championship reigns and main events, eventually becoming The Viper/Apex Predator, a cold uncaring wrestler willing to do anything to get ahead of the rest of the competition. The fans responded well to Orton's attitude for a while. Eventually, he ran into a buzz saw of discontent and even animosity. Despite his status as the reigning WWE World Heavyweight Champion fans have grown tired of Orton and the disdain and apathy towards him grows with each day. The "Bore-ton" chants and nickname have been gaining some steam as the champion's reign wears on. While he's not exactly supposed to be the most popular guy around right now, he stammers his way through promos along with the fact that fans don't care about him and don't want to see him on their televisions has shown that he has fallen out of favor with a majority of them.
JV Vernola has been a wrestling fan since he was three (around the same time Hogan was bodyslamming Andre) and has been able to write almost as long. He lives in the scorched earth that is the Arizona desert while trying to maintain awesomeness.
