7. Triple H
Unlike the first few entries on this list, there is no doubt to Triple H's status as a future hall-of-famer. About to enter his second decade in the company, Helmsley has enjoyed an extended success in WWE the likes of which have been enjoyed by only a handful. The accolades reached by Helmsley are only matched by names like Sammartino, Race and Flair. Triple H was one of the biggest stars of the Attitude Era, during his time in D-Generation X, a faction which he started, Helmsley could do no wrong, his juvenile antics not only winning over current fans, but also helping to draw in new audiences. Triple H's ascent is one of the great stories in wrestling. Ultimately Helmsley became the Chief Operating Officer of the company and along with wife Stephanie, are seemingly the heir apparent to Vince McMahon's sports entertainment dynasty. Through it all, Hunter has had the reputation of being as unscrupulous in the locker room, as he is scrupulous in the ring. If stories are to be believed, Helmsley was the one that set the Montreal Screwjob in motion. As a member of Shawn Michaels' "Kliq," Helmsley learned how to use his status to influence decisions and by the time he was first crowned WWE champion had done so on a number of occasions. There is also the fact that since 2003 he has been married to Stephanie McMahon (they've been together even longer having started dating in 2000), who has been a major figure in the Creative Department at WWE for almost the entire length of the relationship as she became the Director of Creative Writing by 2002, Senior Vice President of the same department by 2006 and Executive VP the next year. Stephanie has very much joined her father Vince as the corporate face of WWE. Which of course leads to accusations of nepotism to go along with the cries that Hunter was already spoiled due to his having friends in high places, and there are plenty of fans that are displeased with Helmsley's position in the company.
