WWE: 11 Loudest Crowd Reactions In WCW History

4. Sting Defeats Hulk Hogan For WCW Title (December 18, 1997 Starrcade)

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4hpyf_starcade-1997-hulk-hogan-vs-sting-p_sport?search_algo=1 This should probably be the biggest pop in WCW history, but it just didn't feel right because of the stupid booking that exemplified all that was wrong with WCW. It was pretty simple. This was Sting's first match with Hulk Hogan after nearly eight months of build up. Yeah that's right, eight months. It wasn't just some short storyline that had no meaning. It was nearly one year long! And they blew it! Instead of Sting beating Hogan clean in the middle of the ring, Hogan hit the leg drop on Sting, covered and ref Nick Patrick counted the pinfall. It was supposed to be a fast count (the idea being he was paid off by Hogan), but it wasn't really that fast. Bret Hart served as a ref that night, knocked out Patrick and restarted the match. When Sting gave Hogan the Scorpion Death Lock submission move and Hogan gave up, it was a big deal. The crowd did go wild. That's why it's on this list. I always felt like it should have been more, though. They could have turned it into a bigger moment. Sting's WCW World Title win is still one of the biggest moments in the history of the company and the reaction he got when he won was genuine from the fans that were sick of Hogan by that point. However, it should have been an even better moment than it was.
