WWE: 15 Memorable Staples Center Moments

2. Summerslam 2011 - The Summer Of Punk

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2M5jnZdZsI 2011 was undoubtedly the summer of Punk. After dropping a pipebomb on the wrestling world on Raw, CM Punk announced that when he beat John Cena at Money in the Bank he€™d be leaving the company for good. That night he did just that, pinned Cena and left through the crowd with his newly won WWE title. The following night, Vince McMahon announced that he would not uphold Punk€™s win and put together an 8 man tournament to crown the REAL champion. Rey Mysterio won this tournament, but was forced to defend against John Cena, who beat him to win his 9th title. After this, Punk showed up with the real title, claiming that HE was the one true WWE champion. As a response, new COO Triple H made a match between the two for summerslam, to crown the undisputed champion. He also made himself the special guest referee, much like he will be this Sunday between Cena and Daniel Bryan. By the time the main event rolled around, the LA crowd had already witnessed a great NO DQ match between Randy Orton and Christian for the other world title. With Triple H as special referee, the odds seemed stacked against the rebel CM Punk. He and Cena set to work on another classic encounter that lived up to the quality of their previous match at Money in the Bank. Triple H remained unbiased as the match rolled on, but it was one of his calls that decided the outcome of the match. After nailing a Go To Sleep, CM Punk covered John Cena. HHH counted to three, even as John Cena got his foot on the bottom rope. CM Punk€™s hand was raised champion, but his night wasn€™t over. While celebrating his win, CM Punk turned around into a big boot from a surprise return of Kevin Nash. He then fell victim to a Jacknife Powerbomb, and Triple H could only look on as Alberto Del Rio ran to the ring, cashed in his briefcase and took the title away from CM Punk.
