WWE 2001 PPVs From Worst To Best

5. Royal Rumble

The Good: The 2001 Rumble PPV only really had one negative spot. Most of the matches were good-to-great and the show itself was well paced. The opening Edge and Christian versus The Dudley Boys match, although played-out at this point, was as good as you would expect it to be. The IC Title ladder match between Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho (a feud which also felt played-out after their extensive 2000 feud) was an absolute cracker. The two Canadians just brutalised each other out there, opting for more violence and less crazy bumps. Triple H versus Kurt Angle (yet more déjà vu) was also solid, although their outing felt like an afterthought with all the interference and storyline shenanigans. The event ended on a high note, with an excellent Rumble match. Austin, who would have a truly phenomenal 2001, was the right choice to win. The Bad: What the hell were WWE thinking with the Chyna paralysis angle? Distasteful and unconvincing, this did nothing but help serve Joanie Laurer's rapidly inflating ego. The whole thing was just a waste of everyone's time. The Rest: Drew Carey booked his place in the WWE Hall of Fame (Celebrity Wing) with his decidedly unfunny performance here.
