The Good: Probably the highlight of the whole Invasion angle, SummerSlam was an A1 supershow. Steve Austin and Kurt Angle had the best match on the show, a genuine match of the year contender full of intensity. Other great matches from The Rock and Booker T and Rob Van Dam and Jeff Hardy (ladder) make sure that this one is in the upper tier of SummerSlams. The Lance Storm versus Edge opener is also worth seeking out (and probably Storm's finest hour in the WWE). Ditto Chris Jericho versus Rhyno and X-Pac versus Billy Kidman. The Bad: The destruction of DDP and Kanyon continued. This time, they were completely hammered by Kane and The Undertaker in a one-sided cage match. When supposedly top members of the opposition were routinely pounded like this is it any wonder the public lost interest in the whole invasion thing? The Rest: There were several hilarious skits involving Shawn Stasiak, of all people. Stasiak spent the evening trying to attack The Rock to no avail. They probably would have kept Stasiak around for comic relief had he not p***ed off most of the locker room by the time of his spring 2002 release.
