There was nothing inherently wrong about 2K's approach to downloadable content in WWE video games. You paid a fee and received 5 (or more) superstars at regular intervals throughout the year.

In WWE 2K26, however, this will be replaced by a Fortnite-style battle pass.

Branded as the 'Ringside Pass', gamers will earn XP as they progress through the game's varied offline modes, which can be used to claim additional superstars, creation suite parts, virtual currency, and content for The Island and MyFACTION. Each Pass will come equipped with 60 free tracks and 40 premium tracks, the latter making up the revamped DLC model; those will come with an £8.99 fee attached unless you are buying the King Of Kings Edition (season 1), the Attitude Era Edition (seasons 1-4), or the Monday Night War Edition (all seasons). Each premium track will feature 4 characters not already on the base roster to be revealed.

Al Stavola (2K Games' General Manager for Global Communications) also told Gamespot that the Supercharger, which unlocks all retro superstars, arenas, and championships, will feature within the free tier of season 1. That'll be available as of 6 March.
