WWE: 4 Missed Clues That The Undertaker's Streak Was Ending

1. The Undertaker Himself

Perhaps the biggest missed clue, signalling the end of the streak at WrestleMania 30, was The Undertaker himself. At nearly 50 years of age with a body ailed with chronic injury, many fans have failed to appreciate that the man behind The Undertaker character cannot continue to wrestle at future WrestleMania events indefinitely. The WrestleMania 30 match itself highlighted the cruel truth that even with a very light part time schedule; it is becoming increasingly difficult for Mark Calaway to wrestle in order to keep the streak alive. In other words there was always going to have to be a time when The Undertaker could no longer continue his winning streak, ending it either in his retirement or with a defeat. As Mark Calaway is widely known as a traditionalist and would be more comfortable with ending the streak with a defeat, it is alarming that so many fans would assume he would retire with a perfect WrestleMania record. Heading into an anniversary WrestleMania against the man widely thought to be Calaway's handpicked conqueror of his streak, it is strange that so many fans did not comprehend the significance of Lesnar as The Undertaker's opponent. Knowing that The Undertaker is believed to have wanted the streak to end as far back as 2010, it is evident that The Undertaker's traditional wrestling philosophy of 'passing the torch' before retirement was a missed clue as to the Undertaker's view of how he wanted the streak to conclude. Perhaps he has viewed the incredible streak accolade as a burden, after all the concept of the streak was not truly recognised until WrestleMania 18 and since then it has to a large extent served to overshadow every other thing he has accomplished in his legendary career. Overall taking into consideration the age of The Undertaker, the fact that he is a wrestler with traditional wrestling beliefs and knowing the speculation that Brock Lesnar was The Undertaker's choice to end his streak, then it is in hindsight obvious that there were many missed clues associated with The Undertaker himself that signalled that the streak match was in far greater jeopardy at WrestleMania 30 than the WWE Universe first believed. In closing it is evident that despite the perceived unexpectedness of the streak match ending at WrestleMania 30, upon reflection there were four significant and overlooked clues that hinted otherwise. Knowing that the 30th Anniversary of WrestleMania, staged in The Undertaker's purple colours, would feature a memorable WrestleMania moment and that an ageing Undertaker was wrestling the man he had allegedly handpicked to end his winning streak, then it is perhaps most surprising that fans were as shocked to see the streak match end at WrestleMania 30 despite the existence of these clues hinting that indeed it would.
