WWE: 5 Returns That Rocked And 5 That Fizzled

4. Hulk Hogan (2002) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKJ2dqvu_UI I suppose I€™m of two minds about this one. When Hogan and the Outsiders returned to the WWF in early 2002, Hogan himself popped a big number for Wrestlemania against the Rock, and fans in Montreal gave him the legendary ovation that seemingly never ended. So it seemed like good business sense to strike while the iron was hot and get the World title back on him one last time. In fact, if I was the guy in charge at that time, I would have done the same thing. I guess we all just didn€™t realize how fast Hulkamania would burn out that time, because almost literally the day after he beat HHH for the title at Backlash, fans had seemingly had enough Hogan for one lifetime, and attendance plummeted for shows with Hulk on top. Clearly the trigger just wasn€™t pulled fast enough, which is kind of a shame because there was a real nostalgia factor with Hulk at that point which probably could have been milked for a while. But as it was, the title reign was such a disaster that it was switched to Undertaker at the very next PPV, which was also the first show under the new €œWWE€ name. Yes, Hulk Hogan€™s 2002 run was so bad that HE KILLED THE WWF. Admittedly that€™s a bit of a stretch, but it€™s my article.
