WWE: 7 Genuine Examples Of Triple H Doing "What's Best For Business"

2. Losing To Chris Benoit At WrestleMania 20

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_W0YTZ__og The build for Chris Benoit as a main eventer in 2004 is similar to what's going on with Daniel Bryan this year although in Benoit's case he actually won the Royal Rumble. Benoit was never the biggest guy or the guy that was the first person that management wanted to push, but he got over with the fans because of how skilled he was inside a wrestling ring. Once Benoit won the Royal Rumble, most thought that he'd face Triple H for the World Title. Instead, they added Shawn Michaels to the mix and presented a triple threat match in WrestleMania 20's main event. In a match that was one of the best in the career of all three men, Benoit made Hunter tap out to the Crippler Crossface and he became the World Champion. The rivalry continued after WrestleMania with Benoit winning a triple threat match a month later at Backlash (this time it was Michaels that tapped out) and then at Vengeance he beat Hunter in a singles match. There was also the Iron Man match on Raw - the only Ironman match in Raw history - that saw Benoit once again retain the World Title. It's amazing that it led to a match with Hunter going against a comedic performer like Eugene, but that's what happened. It was the perfect example of Hunter's star power benefiting somebody like Benoit and helping him move up the ladder thanks to all of the times that Benoit was able to beat him.
