WWE: 7 Genuine Examples Of Triple H Doing "What's Best For Business"

3. Losing To Shawn Michaels In 2002

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkUffIcclYs The best rivalries in wrestling are often times those that are based off a real life situation that is then brought to the forefront in a wrestling angle. In the case of Hunter's 2002 feud with his best friend Shawn Michaels, it was Shawn's real life back surgery that came into play. He was gone for four years. He had an itch to wrestle again, so what did Hunter do? He beat him up, which turned Hunter heel as a result. Their rivalry saw them take part in three major matches that year. The first one was the most memorable as Michaels was able to win a grueling Unsanctioned Street Fight at the awesome SummerSlam 2002 PPV. It was a clean win that could be deemed an upset. A few months after that, following Michaels sitting out for months due to a worked injury caused by Hunter, it was another match where Hunter put him over clean. This time it was the first Elimination Chamber match at Survivor Series 2002 in New York City. Hunter actually got the World Title back a month later because Shawn didn't wrestle often enough to carry the title, but it's those first two matches that people remember the most. If Hunter went over in those matches it wouldn't have been a shock. He was an established top guy that was a full-timer while Michaels was a part timer. Instead, Michaels ended up getting the win two different times and the fans loved it because of how great Triple H was as the villain in the feud. Victories over him really mattered.
