WWE: 7 Most Hyped Wrestlemania Main Events Of All Time

2. Hulk Hogan and Mr. T vs Paul Orndorff and Roddy Piper - Wrestlemania I

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8p88I9yBQU It has been said that the first Wrestlemania was a huge gamble for Vince McMahon. The story goes that all of the marbles were put into this supercard from Madison Square Garden, and if the event wasn't a success, McMahon, and the entire WWE, would have gone broke. If that's true, then there was no better main event to gamble it all on then the main event from the first "Grandaddy of Them All". Hulk Hogan joined forces with "A-Team" star Mr. T to take on "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper. To add to the superstardom, Hogan and T were managed by wrestling icon "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka, and Orndorff and Piper were managed by "Cowboy" Bob Orton. Besides Mr. T, other celebrities were heavily involved in the main event of the inaugural Wrestlemania. Liberace was the special guest timekeeper and Muhammed Ali was the special guest enforcer. Furthermore, this was during the height of the "Rock and Wrestling Era", and music star Cyndi Lauper was heavily involved in WWE programming. What better way to hype up your main event than constant promotion on the new and extremely popular cable station MTV? In the days leading up to the event, Hogan and Mr T appeared on the talk show "Hot Properties" (where host Richard Belzer got injured from a chin lock demonstration by Hulk) and like the Rock in the previous entry, the pair also hosted Saturday Night Live. The hype, the celebrities, and the superstars all made this main event a gamble that ultimately paid off. The event was a huge success, and we are now headed towards the 30th Wrestlemania.
