Admittedly the matches on this 3 disc set are fairly average, but one contest that stands out is the 2001 Batista vs Brock Lesnar match. This is an intriguing contest given that both men would go on to become two of the biggest names of the next decade - without ever meeting in an official WWE ring. It is actually a really decent wrestling match. Both are a similar build and they match up well, with Lesnar doing the majority of the work in impressive suplexes and selling. Batista is also good here, showing his brawling and slamming moveset. One observation about these two is they clearly look like stars, they stand out, they fill the OVW ring. That's something you don't really get with NXT right now. WWE are moving away from big muscular bodies, but looking at Batista and Lesnar you can't deny that look matters, you just feel that they have 'it'. Anyone watching in 2001 could have seen that they'd go on to great things. The match also serves as a reminder as to how great Batista vs Brock would be thirteen years onward on the big stage. We have analysis of WWE's plans for that match here at 10 Future WWE Matches. You partly suspect that WWE included the Lesnar match on this DVD release because their plan back in January was for Batista to face Lesnar at SummerSlam 2014. The February heel turn killed that idea.
