Batista and John Cena would become WWE's biggest brand stars in 2005, enjoying top status for the next half decade. In some ways it's a minor miracle that Vince McMahon stuck by the stars in '05, particularly after their in-ring rustiness resulted in the Chairman tearing both his quads. The incident is infamous, both Batista and Cena were battling it out as the last two men in the Royal Rumble 2005. Somehow they managed to screw the finish up, Batista was booked to win but both men went over the top rope together in a messed up spot. Embarrassingly Batista's feet hit the ground first, which would have made Cena the winner. Coming out to resolve the situation, Vince McMahon rolled into the ring, which somehow managed to overstretch and tear his quads. The rematch was restarted for Batista to win, with the Chairman sat in agony in the corner of the ring. "Royal Rumble 2005 worked out but it was disastrous in many aspects" Batista says in the documentary portion of the new DVD, adding that he hopes his second Royal Rumble win would be smoother.
