WWE Elimination Chamber 2026: 7 Nightmares That Could Come True
6. Nobody Cares About The World Title Match
Welcome to 'Saturday Night's Main Event: Elimination Chamber Edition'. Well, that's true for the World Heavyweight Title showdown between CM Punk and Finn Bálor at least. As the intro said, they had a fun enough match over in Belfast on the 19 January Raw. Bálor was realistically never winning it, and the same could be said for this weekend's second act.
Does anyone actually believe he's going to rock the boat on the choppy waters before WrestleMania and force his way into the main event scene? Come on now. WWE already set up Punk vs. Roman Reigns, and there's absolutely no way they're going to veer away from that blockbuster for Finn. People know this before watching Chamber.
Therein lies the problem with even booking this match in the first place.
It's a nothing tune up bout for Punk, and that's being charitable. The only lick of paint he and Finn have going in is the threat of Dominik Mysterio turning on Bálor to set up that collision come 'Mania. Yes, the World Heavyweight Title match may be used to line up an Intercontinental one. Kinda sums up the overall interest in this match, huh?
Look, Punk and Bálor will show some solid stuff come the weekend, but their match is likely to be more AEW Collision than WWE PLE. The looming spectre of a certain 'OTC' also makes it impossible to buy into what Finn has been selling on TV. You'll be bumped back down the card straight after this, sir.
Sorry, but it's true. Or...
