WWE Extreme Rules: 10 Things Overly Optimistic Fans Hope Will Happen
2. Bray Wyatt Beats John Cena Clean
When John Cena beat Bray Wyatt clean at WrestleMania a lot of fans complained. They felt like Cena didn't need to get the win because Wyatt's ten years younger than Cena and would have benefited greatly from a win. Instead, Cena won clean. From WWE's point of view, it's understandable why they would put Cena over because they had a babyface Undertaker losing to Brock Lesnar so they likely felt like they needed to have one of their top babyfaces get a big win. What's been confusing is Cena did this challenge for Extreme Rules where he asked for a Steel Cage Match because he didn't want Erick Rowan and Luke Harper to interfere. That would have made a lot more sense if those two guys interfered to cost him the WrestleMania match, but they did nothing of the sort at that show. It's been confusing to understand. Perhaps the thinking is that they have been major factors post WrestleMania and this is the way to keep them out. As we all know, John Cena isn't the most beloved figure among online fans. The optimistic fan probably hopes he's going to lose to Wyatt, but due to all the years of watching how Cena has been booked strongly they likely think he's going to find a way to win the match. A Wyatt win would be what's best for business (sorry for the cliché) simply because it could lead to a third and final match for the two guys. A three month feud, no matter who the winner is, would be beneficial to both guys. That's why Wyatt needs to win this match to build to a third. A Cena win would be depressing to see. It's not necessary and would be the wrong move.
