WWE Extreme Rules 2014: 10 Match Types We Most Want To See
8. Barbed Wire Match
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDvnsukyHjs Now of course there's a reason why you don't see barbed wire matches in WWE. It's a very dangerous match type that, when done improperly, can lead to serious injuries that leave lasting physical impressions on the combatants. The idea behind a barbed wire match is to literally replace the ring ropes with barbed wire. That means every time a wrestler got irish whipped, he would be on the receiving end of a few lines of sharp wire right to the back. ECW and TNA have utilized the barbed wire match as it has traditionally been presented, and those matches haven't exactly stood the test of time. So what can WWE do with this match type? Change it up a little. Instead of the ropes having barb wire, wrap a few weapons laid around the ring. It makes the weapons look much more brutal, and at the same time the wrestlers have more control over the impact that the weapons have. If WWE would allow it, a spot during the match where one wrestler grinds the other's head into the wire would be an extreme moment that, along with some juicing, would shock the WWE fans who haven't seen something that violent in a long time. It's taking something old and bringing it back with a slight alteration that makes it better suited for WWE programming.
