Rusev is reborn (aside from a brain-melting decision to have him lose to Sin Cara recently), and it's time to restore him into his rightful place near the top of the card. If the 'Bulgarian Brute' were to win the WWE United States Title, the belt would have the illusion of greater credibility, something that is sorely lacking whilst Kalisto holds it.

The masked man's time with the secondary strap is surely nearing an end, but that doesn't exactly mean Extreme Rules will mark the date of his title downfall. Rusev's aforementioned televised loss to Kalisto's tag-team partner was baffling, and it could hint that WWE aren't quite ready to once again pull the trigger on the heel.

Eyes would be opened if Kalisto somehow managed to leave the pay-per-view still United States Champ. After repeat wins against the monstrous Ryback, a victory over another physically superior performer would maybe give Kalisto the consistency he needs.

Rusev seems a dead cert to become champion, which may provide WWE with the chance to book a small swerve.
