The stipulations of the Submission Match between Charlotte and Natalya called for a straight up one-on-one battle between both women. Ric Flair was to be banned from ringside, mainly so that fans would then believe that Natalya could defeat Charlotte and become the new WWE Women's Champion. The creative team had something else in mind.

As Flair's entrance music played, Dana Brooke walked backwards onto the stage set dressed as the legend. She then became heavily involved in the finish of the bout, paving the way for Charlotte to defend her title. A Natalya loss would have felt deflating if it had been clean, so WWE obviously felt they needed something to pad that end result.

This protects Natalya, and gives her further motivation to continue chasing the Women's Title. After another televised shot, her attention can turn to the interfering Brooke.

A run of matches on the house show circuit against Natalya will only help Dana improve inside the ring, which is surely the intended purpose. The way her match against Charlotte ended at Extreme Rules was the best course of action.
