WWE Fastlane 2017: 11 Things That Must Happen
2. Superman And Goliath Need Protection
In the 1980s and early '90s, there was a predictable arc repeated on numerous occasions in the then-WWF. A monster would arrive and run through the opposition before eventually being vanquished by Hulk Hogan. The same trope was used to establish The Undertaker in the early '90s, and more recently John Cena has taken on the mantle in the modern era.
Could it be that the months of establishing Braun Strowman as a force to be reckoned with have transpired purely to eventually sacrifice the Monster Among Men at the altar of Roman Reigns? While that would initially seem like insanity, it should not be put past WWE, regardless of how strongly the WWE Universe seems to have rejected Reigns.
What are WWE's options here?
Does Reigns overcome the monster and hand Strowman his first loss? Does Strowman shock the world by pinning Roman Reigns in the middle of the ring, clean as a whistle? Will the two men fight out into the crowd and both avoid a defeat in the process? Or maybe an ominous gong will distract Reigns long enough for the Black Sheep to take advantage?
With Reigns still likely to face The Undertaker at WrestleMania 33, and Strowman the odds-on favourite to win the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, prevailing wisdom suggests that both men need to be protected ahead of the big show on April 2. This one is unlikely to have a clean finish; that, unfortunately, is for the best.
