WWE Fastlane 2017: 11 Things That Must Happen

1. Shenanigans Galore In The Main Event

If you are a fan of the Attitude Era and find yourself clamouring for a return to the shenanigans-filled main events of the late '90s, then Fastlane may well be the WWE pay-per-view for you. The show is going to be headlined by Goldberg challenging Kevin Owens for the WWE Universal Championship, and that match can only go one of two ways - both of which can be considered Attitude Era-friendly.

The first is that Goldberg obliterates Kevin Owens in less time than it takes Bill to get from his locker room to the ring. If the aim is to make Goldberg look as strong as possible ahead of his WrestleMania 33 match with Brock Lesnar, a sub-two minute destruction is the only way.

The alternative is a plunder-filled clusterf*ck featuring interference from the major rivals of both Owens and Goldberg. If Goldberg and Lesnar are going to go on last at 'Mania, they will need to do something more than a two-minute annihilation, and if that is the case Goldberg is worryingly short on in-ring time. This match going at least 10 minutes may well be an answer to that problem.

Where do Brock Lesnar and Chris Jericho fit into this main event? While it is plausible that they will stay at home and watch on their presumably-expensive television screens, it is more likely that one or both will show up on Sunday. Will Jericho ensure that Owens retains the title, as he said he would during the Festival of Friendship, putting himself in line for a WrestleMania title shot in the process?

Or will Lesnar interfere to send a message to Goldberg in what has been a dangerously one-sided feud up 'til now? It is difficult to see Goldberg or Owens pulling out a clean, hard-fought victory after 11 or 12 minutes of action. This match is either over in a flash or it ends in interference, and WWE would be wise to make sure the latter happens in favour of KO.

What happens on Sunday night in Milwaukee will put WWE on a crash course that it will struggle to avoid when it comes to WrestleMania 33, and things are about to get very fascinating in the WWE Universe as the road to WrestleMania enters its final stretch.

Just don't expect much in the way of clean finishes come Sunday.
