WWE Files Trademark For Classic Show Moniker
The last version of the show aired in 2008.
WWE have filed new trademarks for 'Saturday Night's Main Event'.
The classic show aired throughout the 80's and early 90's and even made a comeback in the mid-2000's, with matches like Edge Vs Jeff Hardy and Shane McMahon Vs Shawn Michaels taking place at the weekend events.
Now, it appears WWE could be lining up another return for the Saturday night spectacular, as the company filed for a whole host of trademarks for use of the name on everything from clothing to pencil sharpeners.
It's worth noting that, a couple of years before the current global health crisis gripped the planet, WWE interestingly asked fans in a survey what they'd like to see on the WWE Network. One of the options on the survey was house shows being aired on the network under the 'Saturday Night's Main Event' banner.
Despite this trademarking news, there's still no guarantee that Vince McMahon will in fact follow through with a Saturday Night's Main Event revival. Even if he did, it likely wouldn't be brought back on the house show circuit due to WWE putting live events on ice during this surreal period.
Making the show another NXT Takeover spin-off, much like In Your House, or even taking inspiration from the recent Great American Bash TV special could be an option.
Though nothing is concrete at this moment, fingers crossed we see the golden oldie brought back to our screens in the near future.
