8. The Fabulous Freebirds
You would think that being one of the most popular, money-drawing tag teams in wrestling history would earn you induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. Not yet. The Freebirds are still awaiting entry to the Hall. What makes it even odder is that former leader of the Freebirds, Michael P.S. Hayes, has been employed by the WWE since 1995, and was even the lead writer on SmackDown at one point. Other longtime employees like Howard Finkel, Gene Okerlund and Pat Patterson have all been inducted, but Hayes continues to play the waiting game. Eventually, the Freebirds have to go in. Maybe this could be their year. New Orleans would be a great for the group's induction as they battled before in the Superdome, and were legendary in the South. The Freebirds won championships nearly everywhere they went. They captured gold in WCW, WCCW, GWF and the NWA. Their feud with The Von Erichs remains one of the biggest in wrestling history. And, perhaps most importantly, they were in Highlander! I mean, Edge got into the Hall of Fame, and he was only in Highlander: Endgame! The fact that The Freebirds aren't already in the WWE Hall of Fame is possibly because two of the main three members of the group have passed away (Terry Gordy and Buddy Roberts). It does make the induction kind of bittersweet. But that shouldn't stop the company, it's never stopped MLB or the NFL from letting someone in. And besides, The Road Warriors were recently inducted with Hawk, so it wouldn't be unprecedented. To help cover that half the group is no longer with us, Jimmy Garvin (while nowhere near as successful in the group as Gordy and Roberts) could go in with Hayes. The Wrestling Observer newsletter inducted The Freebirds into its Hall of Fame in 2005. It's about time that WWE does the same.
Andrew Soucek
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
