SmackDown Live's first pay-per-view had something in common with Monday Night Raw's initial monthly special. At Backlash, AJ Styles beat Dean Ambrose to become the new WWE World Champion. Then, at Clash Of Champions Kevin Owens defended the WWE Universal Title against Seth Rollins. Both these matches were in the headline slot.

Ironically, No Mercy and Hell In A Cell (the latest from each brand) also had one striking parallel linking them. Namely, neither top male singles belt was in the last match on the card. A Triple Threat encounter for the WWE Title opened up the SmackDown show and Raw handed the headline berth to the Women's Title this time.

A true leap forward for female wrestling in the company, seeing Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte go on last at Hell In A Cell felt groundbreaking. For the past few weeks, many have been left wondering whether or not WWE had the courage to take such a plunge.

It turns out those in charge do have guts, having women headline inside Hell In A Cell goes against perceived tradition in the promotion.
