WWE In Japan: 5 Great Matches You Need To Know
1. Kevin Owens Vs. Finn Balor - WWE Beast In The East 2015
WWE returned to the Land of the Rising Sun in July 2015 for a WWE Network special entitled 'Beast in the East', named so due to the presence of Brock Lesnar, who absolutely crushed Kofi Kingston in two-and-a-half minutes. Kicking off the show was a hell of a match between Chris Jericho and Neville, and closing was a so-so John Cena & Dolph Ziggler versus Kane & King Barrett tag clash.
In the semi-main spot were Finn Balor and recent main roster call-up Kevin Owens, who were battling over Owens' NXT Title. The match had been built up well on NXT TV and expectations were high. Luckily, the two performers were able to more than live up to the hype, producing one of 2015's best matches in the process.
The match kicked off in fast and furious fashion, with Owens disrespectfully throwing a bunch of flowers out of the ring during a traditional pre-match ceremony. To a man like Balor, who had spent eight years with New Japan Pro Wrestling, this just wasn't on. Owens continued playing the part of the prick throughout, to great effect.
Really, trying to do a play-by-play on every move would be a lost cause here. The action was tight and the pace quick, with both men giving everything they had and hitting big moves left and right. After escaping a pop-up powerbomb attempt, The Demon was able to land a devastating dropkick before finishing off the loudmouth Owens with a coupe de grace to become the new NXT Title.
In a nice touch, WWE Hall of Famer and Japanese wrestling legend Tatsumi Fujinami came out to congratulate the new champ.
