WWE King Of The Ring 2019: 7 Ways WWE Can Make It Work
5. Have An Actual Plan For The Winner
If anyone reading this gets the chance, ask Sheamus and Wade Barrett how much winning King Of The Ring did for their careers. Actually don't, because it'll bring up painful memories for both (especially Barrett) and probably lead to an eye-rolling rant about how much it sucked.
It sucked for more reasons than one, but a major flaw in WWE's booking for both is that there wasn't a long-term strategy.
If someone like Kevin Owens goes on to win KOTR 2019, then they need to have something meaningful to follow up with immediately. No mucking around with crowing promos about coronations or any of that nonsense, and no sabbaticals to let the victory sink in. A plan must be put in place to capitalise on KOTR buzz, not rest on laurels.
WWE could borrow from their own past here. The winner could be guaranteed a World Title match at some point in the future (maybe even Survivors Series so the aforementioned brand warfare gimmick definitely dies), or they could secure a pleasing number in January's Royal Rumble if the writers feel like looking ahead.
