WWE Newcastle Live Review – 10 Interesting Observations You Need To Know
7. Pro Wrestling Still Draws The Celebrities
A WWE show coming to town is always a draw to local celebrities. That's a good thing, as rightly or wrongly celebs are modern day role models. What they follow is what their fans will follow. WWE will be pleased to know that they can still attract interest from local stars. In attendance as a fan was Newcastle United's Ryan Taylor. He had a front row seat with his son and wife. His kid was of course kitted out in Cena merchandise and it looked like Taylor purchased a big bag of gear for his family. Strangely, Taylor looked kind of bored throughout the show. His wife seemed much more engaged with the action. There was a celebrity angle with The Ascension vs Lucha Dragons match. Sunderland footballer Jermaine Defoe was brought out as guest time keeper. Sunderland are Newcastle's local rivals and the derby was just last weekend - with Defoe scoring the sensational winning goal. As a result, the heel heat was loud, but nothing like it would have been a decade ago. It wasn't as if people were screaming for his blood, the booing was well natured. Ryan Taylor sat ringside behind Defoe didn't appear to acknowledge his rival. The Ascension and Dragons match was basic. Defoe actually did nothing of note, and looked to be chatting with Eden at ringside during the action. He left the show immediately after this, which makes you wonder if WWE actually booked him solely for this appearance. I bumped into him backstage as he was leaving, he was very friendly and a nice guy. Other celebrities in attendance were the Geordie Shore lads from MTV. I also met these guys and they were having a lot of fun, which shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who watches that show. Scotty T was polite and appreciative of fans who wanted to take photos with him. It looked like they were there as regular fans and they hung around the corridors for photos for quite a while.
