WWE Night Of Champions: 10 Hidden Gem Matches You Must See
8. Curtis Axel vs. Kofi Kingston (2013)
In retrospect, it's fascinating that WWE experimented so much with Paul Heyman several years ago. The likes of Ryback and - briefly - Cesaro were known as 'Paul Heyman Guys', and the thought process was very much that Heyman could make anyone a star. That's exactly why he was installed as the manager of Curtis Axel. Giving WWE's writing staff some credit, they really tried with Axel. Televised wins over the likes of John Cena and Triple H may have been sullied somewhat by count outs and distractions, but they were still treated like big victories. Much like many others however, Axel's push wouldn't last long. The highlight of his run with Heyman came when he captured the Intercontinental Title at Payback in June, 2013. Fast forward a few months, and Axel was facing Kofi Kingston at Night Of Champions. The bout was opening the Pay-Per-View portion of the show, and proved to be one of the better matches on the event. Curtis Axel may never have been the most interesting character, but the man could have great matches when given the time. At Night Of Champions, almost 15 minutes of time ensured a cracking contest.
