The feud between Rusev and Ziggler has been detrimental to both men's careers. So much so that many have hoped that this rivalry would end at Night of Champions. Sadly, those hopes were grossly misplaced.

Though there was some impressive athleticism in this match, Rusev and Dolph Ziggler clearly didn’t give it their best. Many of the moves looked awkward or bothchhed, and there was some stupid booking mid-way through as Rusev started celebrating as if he had won.

Of course, the match could’ve still been salvageable if it didn’t end via controversial means.

In true WWE fashion, Summer Rae got involved again, only this time, she threw her shoes in frustration, with the second one hitting Rusev (why the ref didn’t call for the bell right there speaks volumes of WWE bending the rules of their own universe). But the icing on the cake was when Rusev sold Summer’s shoe almost as dramatically as Hogan sold the Fingerpoke of Doom. That was enough of a distraction for Ziggler to hit his finisher on Rusev and win the match.

Because of the match’s unclean decision, it’s virtually guaranteed that this rivalry, with its cheesy dialogue, TMZ-style narrative, and ridiculous premise, is going to continue, with WWE bent on promoting it as a ‘steamy summer sizzler’ for weeks to come (despite the fact that summer is well and truly behind us).
