WWE Night Of Champions: 12 Major Talking Points
8. WWE Still Has A Security Problem
Just before the mystery partner for Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns was revealed, a fan appeared right behind Roman Reigns, and it took security a long time to take him down. Thankfully, the fan wasn’t carrying anything dangerous, and was dispatched by security quite easily (once they actually got to him).
Unfortunately, this isn’t a new phenomenon. It’s part of a growing and worrying trend involving WWE, where fans are attempting to (and are succeeding at) getting too close to WWE Superstars. In the past few months, Roman Reigns had a briefcase thrown at his head, an allegedly-obsessed fan was shot outside the WWE Performance Center, and a fan got too close to Dean Ambrose while motioning in a way that suggested that he was trying to stab him.
Let’s be clear about something: no matter how much you love wrestling (or hate certain wrestlers), that doesn’t give you the permission to enter the ring. These Superstars are performers who put their lives on the line on a nightly basis, and they have to follow a script to keep the show functioning as intended. The last thing they need is some deranged individual trying to cause them harm.
As for security, something’s got to give. Incidents like this one can easily become more uncomfortable, and the personnel in Houston last night should’ve been more careful in preventing this guy from entering the ring. Thankfully nothing bad happened, but you cannot always be so sure in this day and age…
