WWE Night Of Champions 2025: 7 Nightmares That Could Come True
3. Then WWE Turns Him Into A Goofy ‘King’
This would be the ultimate Cody comedown.
Gunther showed the way a modern King Of The Ring should act last year. He was proud of winning the crown by beating Randy Orton, then moved up the card to eventually win the World Heavyweight Title and cement his place on top of the card. That KOTR win is still paying off for the big Austrian over a full year on. His example is the one Cody should follow should he become 'King' next.
Rhodes should then pore over WWE history and look to avoid what happened to other tournament winners like Wade Barrett, Sheamus or even Booker T in the past. Sure, 'King Bookah' was some laugh, but he's the exception of comedic/goofy kings done well and certainly not the rule. Going the 'ha ha' road didn't work for many King Of The Ring winners.
The sight of Cody making his entrance in full crown, cape and sceptre is hard to envision. Surely, he isn't the kind of worker dumb enough to let WWE clown him and turn his act into a bad joke - not after years of excellent performance and watertight presentation on top. Becoming a buffoonish 'King Cody' type would instantly relegate his credibility.
Triple H hated the thought of becoming a cartoonish, crown-wearing 'King' when he won the tourney back in 1997, so it'd be crass of him to force Rhodes into that sort of role in 2025. Goofy and outlandish royal Cody is not the heel character he needs to play when WWE does go all in on a turn.
