WWE Night Of Champions 2025: 7 Nightmares That Could Come True
4. Cody Rhodes Turns Heel Too Early
By his own recent admission, WWE poster boy Cody Rhodes is "probably at the tail end" of his run on top as the number one babyface. It's been an impressive few years. Not many other performers could've sustained such popularity whilst portraying such a strait-laced good guy with morals who flashes off smiles, shakes hands and generally acts as a positive role model.
During the 'Attitude Era', this Cody would've been booed out of buildings or forced to turn heel in a hurry because he lacked anti-authority edge. 'Stone Cold' Cody Rhodes would've been born. Yes, Rhodes will go rogue eventually, but at Night Of Champions? Nah, that's far too soon. He can surely drop hints, but this should be a slow burn change in someone who's growing increasingly weary of always being the good guy but losing prizes and friends due to it.
WWE should let everything breathe as best they can. If anything, it's known snake and legacy (wahey!) 'Viper' Randy who should veer more towards the menacing route during Saturday's King Of The Ring finale. After all, he was pretty much screwed over last year by Gunther and a blind ref, so he'll be desperate to wear the crown before calling it a career.
Turning Cody full on heel then marching him into another match vs. John Cena at SummerSlam feels messy. Instead, it'd be best if Triple H hit the brakes and kept something massive like that in reserve for the next WrestleMania season. There's no reason why WWE and Rhodes should avoid teasing everyone before then, but he shouldn't play his hand just yet.
Smoke and mirrors.
