WWE No Mercy 2001: 5 Awesome Things And 5 That Sucked

5 Awesome Things...

5. The Jim Ross & Paul Heyman Commentary Team

While it may be unfair to say that Jim Ross & Paul Heyman are the best WWE announcing team in history because they weren't together that long, it's so refreshing to watch shows from 2001 to hear them together. By this point in the storyline, Heyman was revealed as one of the leaders of the heel Alliance stable while JR was locked in as the voice of WWE that was backing all things WWE related. They always found a way to argue about everything and it didn't feel like it was forced commentary where they were told to argue. It felt natural for them. When Jerry Lawler returned to WWE about a month after this to reclaim his seat at the announce table, a lot of fans were happy. I was too. Ross & Lawler made a great team. However, Ross & Heyman always worked well together. Listening to them call a three hour show is so refreshing considering how poor the announce team is in WWE today. Ross & Heyman were the perfect mix of calling the actual match, bickering with each other when needed and getting the stories over. Watch any show they did in 2001 and you can hear it too.
