WWE hopes to maximise its revenue for its biggest shows of the year by sparking bidding wars between cities interested in hosting the events.

This is according to Dave Meltzer. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, he stated that with this new strategy, WWE is essentially aiming to replicate what it does for WrestleMania. Rather than simply booking arenas in whatever market it feels it can shift tens of thousands of stadium seats in, the promotion wants cities to pay based on the level of tourism such shows theoretically bring to the host area.

Clash at the Castle is being hosted in Cardiff, Wales for this season. Cardiff is paying WWE to run its first United Kingdom arena show in 30 years, hence why the company opted for the Welsh capital over London.

Clash takes place in Cardiff's Principality Stadium on Saturday 3 September. Over 60,000 tickets have now been sold for what will become one of the highest-grossing wrestling events ever.

If WWE is able to inspire bidding wars, it will not only from ticket money and other associated revenue streams, but whatever amount the city is willing to pay as well.
