With reports last December that Cameron Grimes was done with NXT ahead of a move to the WWE main roster, many have been pondering what's happening with the former North American Champion.

Speaking on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted how Grimes' time in NXT very much has come to an end and that the plan is indeed to move the North Carolina native to Raw or SmackDown at some point in the future.

According to Meltzer, the reason why Grimes has yet to surface on Monday or Friday nights is simply down to WWE creative having not come up with a storyline for the 29-year-old as of yet. As such, the one-time Million Dollar Champion somewhat finds himself in limbo - finished with NXT, yet without a creative direction in place for a main roster debut.

Via WrestlingNews.co, the Observer founder noted:

"By the way, I’ve been asked this question like a million times in the last couple of weeks. I’m exaggerating the number. 'What’s going on with Cameron Grimes?' Okay, so the deal was that Cameron Grimes was finishing up in NXT, because he was getting called to the main roster. Right now, what’s going on is they are waiting for an idea for the main roster, so he’s in limbo. He’s finished with NXT, and he’s supposed to be on the main roster, but they don’t have a story for him, so they’re waiting to come up with a story."

The last fans saw of Cameron Grimes was on the 8 November edition of NXT's weekly broadcast, where he lost to Joe Gacy as part of Grimes' rivalry with the Schism.

A main roster call-up was rumoured at several points for Grimes last year, and those reports in December detailed how he and Von Wagner were two names on the cusp of heading to Raw or SmackDown. Likewise, there has been plentiful speculation that Zoey Stark, Indi Hartwell, Grayson Waller, Carmelo Hayes and Bron Breakker are others who may find themselves on the main roster sooner rather than later.

WWE has had a habit of debuting NXT talent on the main roster on the Raw or SmackDown after WrestleMania, so it remains to be seen whether Cameron Grimes or any of those other mentioned names find themselves becoming official members of the red or blue brands' rosters once 'Mania is done and dusted.
