WWE: Predicting Top 5 Breakout Stars In 2014

2. Sami Zayn

Samizayn The former El Generico has performed exceptionally well in adapting to WWE's developmental system, retaining his cult following and impressing a whole new audience. Like his previous character, Zayn is the ultimate likeable underdog babyface that can rally any crowd behind him. For a man who spent 9 years under a mask, he can emote and connect with the crowd via facial expressions amazingly well. While many of his loyal fans were pessimistic about him dropping the Generico character to start fresh, Zayn has proven thus far that he doesn't need the wacky cartoon character to get over, he can be himself and still be popular.New fans who aren't aware of his past are instantly drawn to him by his personality and charisma and in-ring storytelling ability, he can really make fans believe that he is in peril and needs their support. Like Ricky Morton or Ricky Steamboat before him, he has that classic good guy charisma that people can connect with, and that translates to money in pro wrestling for a babyface. Since starting on NXT's television in May of 2013, Zayn has been pushed strong, and put on masterful matches with Antonio Cesaro, Jack Swagger, Bo Dallas and Adrian Neville. He has a reputation of a guy who never has a bad match and can make his opponent look better than they really are (a lot like Daniel Bryan). His likeable personality has made him a hit with the NXT fans in the building and online, combined with his constant output of exciting and energetic matches. Wrestling industry pundits frequently comment that Zayn needs to be on WWE's main roster already, as his ability to invest crowds in his matches and make his opponents look good is an invaluable asset to the company. Though he has yet to still conquer Bo Dallas and win the NXT Championship to complete his developmental story arc, he is more than ready to be called up at any moment, and WWE is aware that they have a valuable player in Zayn. A likely time for his callup would be after WrestleMania 30, a time when new talents are traditionally brought up to the main roster.
