7. Wrestlemania 7 - A Real American
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qp5pgIjiz30 Were going to do some math now. 1991 + Gulf War + Pro Wrestling + Provocative storytelling, add all those up and what comes out is the main event of Wrestlemania 7. Hulk Hogan vs Sergeant Slaughter. Slaughter, reborn as an Iraqi sympathizer, had ended the lack luster reign of the Ultimate Warrior at the 91 Rumble, and was drawing nuclear heat that according to Bret Hart, in his 2007 autobiography Hitman which I will shamelessly reference from this point forward, (it is a CLASSIC wrestling read) had fans making death threats to Slaughter, his whole family, and Vince McMahon! It was suggested within WWE that Slaughter burn the American flag. He refused, and instead burned a yellow Hogan shirt, which seemed to do more damage than harming the flag ever could. Wrestling is absurd. Naturally only one man could step up and defeat this evil un-American! Who else?? Hogan! The story was the name of the game here. Hogans entrance is a moment within itself as he carried a gargantuan American flag to the ring to kick Slaughters ass. That alone sealed the ranking here. The match was ok too, if youre into camel clutches and hulking up.
