Stephanie and Shane McMahon booked a triple threat match between The Miz, Cesaro, and Kevin Owens for the Intercontinental Title at Extreme Rules, but Sami Zayn interrupted the announcement and made it clear that he also wanted a shot at the belt. The McMahons agreed - if he could defeat Miz in a non-title qualifying match on Raw. The bout was a very good contest that saw Zayn pick up the win with the Helluva Kick, making the Extreme Rules IC Title match a fatal four-way contest.

Any of the four men would be a fine Intercontinental Champion, but analyzing the bout, it's clear that Zayn should win. The Miz as champ seems like it was only meant to be a short-term development at best, while Owens didn't even have to lose the belt in the first place if they wanted him to be champion.

If Zayn wins, he can continue his feud with Kevin Owens - this time, with the belt at stake. Both men will probably be in the Money in the Bank match, but after that, they can resume their program - potentially with a big blow-off at SummerSlam.

That leaves Cesaro empty-handed, unfortunately, but there's always the U.S. Title.
