WWE Raw: 10 Things You Might Have Missed (May 9)
5. Dumbest Finish Of The Year?
Last week on Raw, Rusev won a battle royal to become number one contender to Kalisto's U.S. Championship. With that victory and The League of Nations having split up, it looked like a singles push was on the way for the supremely-underrated "Bulgarian Brute."
This week, Rusev went toe to toe with Kalisto's partner, Sin Cara. The former U.S. Champion dominated Sin Cara with ease, but the Lucha Dragon managed to fight back, nailing a dive to the outside. Rusev avoided a senton, though, then hit a superkick to set up for the Accolade. Kalisto jumped up on the apron for the distraction, and Sin Cara rolled Rusev up for the win.
There was no conceivable reason why Rusev should have lost. As Rusev is the monster heel, the drama of the feud should revolve around whether or not there's any chance Kalisto can retain his title. Rusev crushing Sin Cara would make Kalisto's chances look even slimmer. Instead, Rusev was beaten, which serves no purpose besides making him look weaker heading into the match.
The saddest part is that the way WWE books, this probably means he's more likely to win the championship at Extreme Rules.
