It appears that WWE's viewer excitement was high after a mixed Backlash pay-per-view, as the follow-up episode of Raw drew the show's largest number since the post-WrestleMania 36 edition.

Raw came through with an average of 1.94 million viewers across its three hours. Here's how that looks when broken down:-

Hour one: 1.98 million viewers

Hour two: 2.00 million viewers

Hour three: 1.84 million viewers

The increase between hours one and two is unusual and while and drop between the first and third is always to be expected, this one was a lot less steep than usual, suggesting that people felt compelled to stick around by the show-long Randy Orton/Christian story.

'Captain Charisma' came out of retirement to face 'The Viper' as part of Edge's bitter rivalry with Orton. The match ended quickly, with Christian eating a punt after a Ric Flair doublecross, making for a compelling piece of storytelling.

The extra viewership may have come from the hype surrounding Orton vs. Edge. It wasn't the "Greatest Wrestling Match Ever," but it was pretty spectacular.

As far as the key 18-49 demographic goes, Raw came through with the exact same rating as last week: 0.53.
