WWE Raw Gallery: 25 Years Of Iconic Monday Nights

12. 2006 - Re-Generation-X

The Rock CM Punk
WWE Network

Dateline: 12th June, 2006

"You make the rules and we will break 'em" was the battle cry of a gravelled and unravelled Shawn Michaels in 1997. Though that philosophy couldn't have been much further from the wacky fun-time variation that reformed in 2006, their actual reunion was one of the genuine highlights of the year.

Carefully crafted and executed over several months, 'The Heartbreak Kid' and 'The Game' had expressed tacit unity with crotch chops in feuds with Mr McMahon and John Cena respectively around WrestleMania, with Hunter in particular parlaying his rivalry with the loathed 'Champ' to turn himself babyface organically before the pair formally brought the merch-shifting initials back.

Raising McMahon's ire enough to have the Chairman set his Spirit Squad goons on him, Triple H was saved from oblivion by his DX buddy - himself returning from a thrashing by the cheerleader quintet. Permitted to cotton on for all those months, the crowd exploded for the official reformation.
