PWInsder.com noted on Monday that Joey Styles has been released by WWE.

This comes just days after the former ECW play-by-play man took part in a Q&A session on WWE's official Facebook page. Many noted the almost 'shoot style' nature of the interview - dated July 29 - at the time, as Styles spoke up about his dislike of many things, including three-man announce teams and the name of Raw's new 'Universal Championship'.

He also spoke about exactly why he thinks Vince McMahon likes Roman Reigns and more.

The 45-year-old was hired by WWE in October 2005 to help fill-in for outgoing lead Raw announcer Jim Ross. He left the red brand in the spring of 2006 so that he could call ECW on SyFy with Tazz and, after leaving that position in 2008, he transitioned into a role with WWE.com and was promoted to the title of Vice President of Digital Media Content.

Styles' time in WWE was often controversial, with Vince McMahon and other WWE power players reportedly not happy with his announcing style, which favours calling moves. He also got into a fight with JBL during the company's December '08 tour to Iraq for the 'Tribute to the Troops' special, which resulted in the diminutive New Yorker knocking out the burly Texan with a single punch, earning him brownie points with the boss and the rest of the locker room.
