WWE Reveals GUNTHER's Surprising New IC Title Contender On SmackDown
GUNTHER's next challenger was revealed on the latest episode of WWE SmackDown.
Madcap Moss will challenge GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Title on next week's episode of SmackDown.
The unlikely new number one contender won a Fatal-4-Way bout vs. Rey Mysterio, Karrion Kross and Santos Escobar to earn that spot. Now, it's likely WWE chiefs will feed Madcap to GUNTHER as some sort of sacrificial lamb to tide the reigning champ over before he starts his next feud heading into WrestleMania 39.
Moss, who seemed destined for bigger things until his push suddenly stalled last year, hadn't won a TV match since teaming with Drew McIntyre to beat The Usos on the 12 August 2022 SmackDown. After that, he was also involved in another IC Title contendership battle (won by Sheamus on the 19 August edition).
Since then, Madcap has been romantically involved with Emma, but WWE's creative team hasn't really developed the story. Perhaps they can get to that once this Intercontinental Title tilt is over and done with, because both badly need something to do for the rest of 'Mania season.
On the plus side, GUNTHER hasn't had a bad IC Title defence yet, so his match vs. Moss should still be a fun watch.
