WWE Royal Rumble: 10 Most Criminally Overlooked Matches

6. Bob Holly & The 1-2-3 Kid Vs. Bam Bam Bigelow & Tatanka - 1995

Hey look, it's another one of them there underrated tag matches from the Royal Rumble undercard! More cynical fans will probably think that a match involving the four men listed about would equate to something akin to a train wreck, but they'd be wrong - yes the potential for disaster was there but ,as random and contrasting as the teams were, they were able to work a splendid match before a captive audience. Kid and Holly were the Cinderella team of a WWF Tag Team Title tournament, taking the place of the Smoking Gunns who were injured in an, ahem, 'rodeo accident'. The Native American and Tattoo Headed bruisers worked over Holly, who was a lot lighter and quicker back then, before Holly managed to make an incredible hot tag to 1-2-3 Kid, who promptly entered the fray and unleashed some high-flying offense. Seriously, go and listen to the reacting the tag to Kid gets. It's doubtful that four similar current-day WWE stars (Neville & Kalisto Vs. Rusev & Barrett?) would be able to garner as much sympathy and create anticipation as much as these guys did at the Rumble - that's not a knock on their talent or ability, by the way... During the chaos of the closing stretch Kid was able to avoid a Bigelow moonsault thanks to some miscommunication with Tatanka, allowing him to get the pin and secure the shocking upset. The underdogs had won the titles! The honeymoon wouldn't last, unfortunately, as just 24 hours later on Raw those damn Smoking Gunns would make their presence felt and reclaim the gold. Still, it was a good match and a great moment (while it lasted).
