WWE Royal Rumble 2020: 9 Last-Minute Rumours You Need To Know

2. The Rock

Returning to WWE for, apparently, one night only last year, The Rock's appearance on the debut Fox episode of SmackDown gave fans a rare glimpse at the star-power the show is sorely lacking. The man is a megastar on a level that no other WWE star can currently even aspire to. In a solitary opening segment, he proved that the talk of crowds getting quieter is off the mark, it's simply that there's nothing worthy of their enthusiasm.

Naturally, this led to rampant speculation that, should his Hollywood schedule ever allow, he'd be convinced (read: paid, minimum, a squazillion dollars) to come back to WWE for one final run. There's a storyline already there for him after all, taking on his cousin Roman Reigns in a WrestleMania main event plucked directly from Vince McMahon's wettest of dreams.

There's been nothing concrete to back this up since then, but out of nowhere talk has taken off of this exact match being the WrestleMania main-event, betting odds from certain companies now even making it the outright favourite. Besides, in a Rumble where one man might eliminate the WWE Champion without even winning the thing, having Roman emerge victorious to then challenge the People's Champion wouldn't even be a logistical problem.

*Paid, minimum, a squazillion dollars.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
