A sham champion, an unloved challanger and a death sentence of a stipulation created the recipe for the worst title match of 2017 at Battleground. Oh, and The Great Khali returned.

The previous two Punjabi Prison matches had been terrible and WWE had not learned their lesson with this one. Much of the 27-minute encounter was spent with the opponents isolated, slowly climbing an ugly structure which makes for a poor viewer experience.

Once again Mahal relied on the interference from the Singh Brothers to help carry him a pay-per-view main event, and although the three-on-one dynamic allowed for some exciting Orton offence, the structure was more of a hinderance than an tool in this regard.

Khali’s return was a shocking and briefly fun moment, but he immediately disappeared thereafter without Jinder ever explaining his random involvement on WWE television. If Khali is gone for good, let’s hope he has taken the dreadful Punjabi Prison concept with him.
