The rapid Goldberg victory over Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series in 2016 was effective as a shocking one-off, but the similar manner of his win over Kevin Owens for the Universal Champion didn’t serve any purpose than to hide the former WCW star’s conditioning.

The hardcore fans who had hoped for Owens to hang onto the belt through Lesnar interference may have accepted defeat for their guy had it come in different circumstances, but the 22-second squash prompted some resentment towards the returning part-timer.

Owens is one of the most intelligent heels on the roster and it is unbefitting of his character that the distraction by Chris Jericho would cause him to turn his back on Goldberg.

The biggest disappointment about this match is what could have been. Short slugfests have worked wonders for the Universal Championship in 2017 and this could have been a great match had it gone six to eight minutes with both men going gung-ho from the bell.
