WWE Smackdown Officially Moving Back To Thursdays
The rumors are true: the long running program will soon leave Friday nights.
For a few weeks now, there have been persistent rumors -- and some unofficial confirmation -- that WWEs secondary show, Smackdown, would be leaving its Friday night time slot on SyFy. It seems that those rumors have now been officially confirmed by SyFy, themselves. The network has posted their latest programming calendar on their official website, which verifies Smackdowns return to Thursday nights. Smackdown was added to the list of WWE programs in 1999. On April 29th of that year, the promotion aired a one-off special which acted as a pilot for the program. The show was picked up by UPN and added to their Thursday night schedule beginning on August 26, 1999. It remained there until UPN and the WB were merged into the CW Network. Consequently, the show was also moved to Friday nights in 2005 -- even being dubbed Friday Night Smackdown for a relatively short time. The program has since aired on Fridays, albeit on various cable outlets. After the move to the CW -- where the program remained for two years -- Smackdown jumped to MyNetworkTV in 2008. Then in 2010, a deal was reached with the SyFy network -- which had recently been rebranded from its original Sci-Fi name and origins. Throughout all its years, however, the show has consistently aired at 8:00 PM. Smackdown will again move, as previously stated, on October 2nd of this year. In roughly two months time the supposed B-show will return to its original night. Interestingly, Smackdown has never aired on Thursdays while on the SyFy network. Furthermore, the show has now spent a longer period of time airing on Fridays as opposed to Thursdays. Fans have been clamoring for Smackdowns return to Thursday nights ever since its original move to Fridays in 2005. Now, the program will return to its original night of broadcast. Let us know your thoughts on the move in the comments below.
